As you are probably aware, July 1 is the cut off date in Australia for engineered stone surfaces containing silica. This included popular brands such as Caesarstone, Quantum Quartz, YDL, Smartstone, Silestone (the list goes on).
All of the main companies have now got a 0% silica range of engineered stones either in, or coming into Australia. The price is set to be around the same mark as the old product and from what I have heard, the quality is the same.
Another product that has become very popular overseas and is making it's way into the Australian market is Sintered stone. Sintered stone brands include Dekton and Neolith and there are many others. Sintered stone has the advantage of being 12mm thick (mitred edges to bring the edge thickness up if you need) and has many types of textures available.
Porcelain is another very popular choice for tops. Most major brands now carry a range of porcelain. Colours and textures are once again at the forefront and both the sintered and the porcelain tops are of a very high end when it comes to quality.
And don't discount laminate as an option for your kitchen benches! With so many new colours coming into the market, and a range of pre made 38mm thick worktops, the laminate choice has never been better.
